How to guarantee a dramatically different life by 2027
We’re almost halfway through 2026, and yes, that is terrifying. But here’s something I find fascinating: the reason life seems to pass faster as we get older is because we have fewer and fewer new experiences.
When your life becomes more and more copy-and-paste, your brain condenses all those samey days into one - so it feels like time is flying. And that is the basis for just one of my two biggest recommendations to change your life dramatically by the end of the year.
My credentials for this advice
From the ages of 18 to 27, I dropped out of uni and worked a 9-to-5 in marketing. My dream was to be a Head of Marketing - and I was offered that exact job at 27, and turned it down.
I then negotiated a new job from £70k to £95k (I explain exactly how I did it here), and quit after six months. I became a beauty content creator, and doors opened up for me. I’m now preparing to launch a skincare brand, and I’m interviewing Olivia Attwood next week.
I’m not saying the answer is to become a content creator. But I will say it has made me an expert in dramatic life changes - and they are not luck. They are intentional, door-opening acts.
These acts might seem small on paper. But you have to operate on the basis of taking regular action, while knowing you are not fully in control - which is perfect. Because as long as you are taking daily actions to change your life, opportunities will come your way that you never could have imagined.
Before we get into the exact steps, I want to tell you about two people I know this has happened to.
Amelia
I became friends with Amelia when a makeup artist dropped out last minute and I found her on Instagram. It was my 30th birthday - the Desperate Housewives-themed one - and I had really set my heart on professional hair and makeup.
This all happened this time last year. She was 22, I was about to turn 30. She was working at Charlotte Tilbury at the time, like a lot of makeup artists do when they’re building up their client base.
After my birthday, we became closer friends. She would ask me a lot about going freelance - whether she should hand in her notice at Charlotte Tilbury. She was nervous, understandably. When a pay check is the only thing you’ve ever known, handing it in for uncertainty is terrifying.
The first few months were up and down for her. Then, a few weeks ago, I saw she was assisting Nikki Makeup - a huge makeup artist I’ve followed for a long time. I congratulated her on her Instagram story.
A few days later, I saw her post a picture of Kris Jenner on her story. A few days after that, another picture of Kris Jenner. She is now travelling the world as Nikki Makeup’s assistant, and she worked on Kris Jenner’s face at the Met Gala.
Amelia is extremely talented, so I never doubted she would go far. But it wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t quit her job. She opened herself up, she put herself out there - and now she’s working on huge celebrities at the Met Gala, less than a year after going freelance.
Roger
I’ve changed this person’s name because it’s my ex-boyfriend’s dad - but his story has always fascinated me.
Roger is in his 70s now. He had a wild career change in his 30s. Until his mid-30s, he was a maths teacher earning an average salary. Then he randomly decided to quit teaching and start working in a traditional office job.
With no prior experience - just an interest in the work - he was eventually promoted to CEO of that company. That is how his family ended up with a very large house and a lot of money back in the day.
Roger is the perfect example of life rewarding you for making a bold move rather than playing it safe. It won’t always be the right move, but the idea is that you make enough moves for one or two of them to be winners.
I’m not blind to the fact that the economy is a lot worse than it was back then, and this particular scenario is far less likely now. But with change comes opportunity - and that leads me to my first suggestion for you.
The critical mindset shift
This is going to sound woo woo. And maybe it is. But at this point I don’t care, because it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done to generate more luck and success in my life:
